Happy 4th of July!

Happy 4th of July, everyone! Today, my plans consist of eating, drinking, eating, and taking naps somewhere in between. If you have a moment of down time (remember, booze is a depressant), I suggest perusing Ebony's ultra amazing online magazine archive. While best viewed sober, the archive features lush images of your favorite male and female icons dating back to the 1950s. In this post, I've highlighted the 1973 July issue with the divine Diana Ross on the cover and her two adorable children.

Have fun!

Will Michelle Obama cover Vogue?

Is a Vogue cover in the works for future First Lady Michelle Obama? Why, Yes! As one Vogue edtrix says, “Starting with Eleanor Roosevelt, it’s been a long-standing tradition to photograph the new first lady. So needless to say, we are very interested in working with Mrs. Obama. Precisely how is still being discussed." It looks, however, Ebony will score the first cover with Michelle's mug on it post-election. The Chicago-based magazine is said to be "quickly" assembling a special January issue dedicated to Barack Obama’s candidacy. [WWD]

Ebony can do multi covers too

While Italian Vogue may have paid homage to black beauty this month, Ebony magazine would like you all to know that they do it on the regular, 24 hours a day and seven days a week.

This month, the magazine pays tribute to eight different black men (Barack Obama, Prince, Denzel Washington, Billy Dee Williams, Jay-Z, Marvin Gaye, Muhammad Ali) by giving them each a cover for its July issue.

Inside the issue, the mag counts down its 25 coolest brothers of all-time. As the mag says:

"These brothers radiate confidence and have an alluring charisma that sets the standard. From their sleek, debonair styles to their smooth-as-silk personas, these magnificent Black men have conveyed, captured and conquered the quintessence of “cool” while making it appear effortless."

So the next time you're at the news stand hustling for four issue with Sessilee's, Jourdan's, Naomi's, and Liya's face on them check out the current issue of Ebony. It too explores the issue of black beauty and the varying shades and forms it comes in.
