Like a thief in a middle of the night, Kendo-La's late night missive came out of nowhere.
Essentially, thery're closing their doors. Indefinitely.
After five long years, the one-and-only female sneaker boutique in California will be no more. Sad, indeed, However, before the walk out of the door they are having a major sale: all shoes $40 or less. Shop wisely.

When I think of Cheap Monday, three things come to mind: cool, cheap, creator of my all-time favorite pairs of Skinny Jeans (and yes I did have to capitalize this particular style of denim pants).
Indeed, Swedish label Cheap Monday couldn't get any hipper but then they went on ahead and created a frighteningly amazing capsule collection dubbed WKND. Replete with leggings and oversized tops in fluorescent and bold prints, the pieces can be found exclusively at Tobi.com -- or at least they were only available at that one particular ecommerce site.
Opening February 15th in the famous Chinatown section of Los Angeles, the Choose Chinatown pop-up store will be filled to the brim with Cheap Monday and WKND designs. The WKND pieces, in particular, were inspired by various weather and climate related catastrophes:
"Mirroring today’s anxious mood, the WKND collection invokes images of destruction in the form of earthquakes, flooding, typhoons, and volcanoes. In this dark reality, WKND designer Peter Jansson has created a stimulating collection of batwing jackets, leggings, tanks, and tees. The prints used in WKND SS09 are derived from real typhoon photographs and from hurricane shapes based on traditional lace patterns. The mix of modern photography with old world craftwork represents the axiom that in the face of destruction, people return to their roots."
Sounds cool, no? The store will be located at 441 Gin Ling Way, Los Angeles, CA 90012, 213.613.9200. PS: Both men and women looks will be available. [Highsnobette]

Attention, all California residents:
Your government stimulus check may not be the only free entity lurking in your mailbox this month.
MAC cosmetics will be sending out postcards with a gloriously faded sunset and the phrase "California Dreamin" written in some cheesy cursive font.
Those select few who receive the little love notes from the beauty giant can then take them to a local MAC store/counter and they'll give you a free limited-edition lipstick, which bares the same name boldly printed on the postcard.
My only qualm would be with the title of the product: Do people still envision surfing and warm beaches when they think of California? Because I'm pretty sure the LA County Jail, scripted reality shows, and Pinkbery come to mind.
The latter, in particular, because the chain stores are kind of like treasured landmarks in the state. Maybe the next MAC freebie could be called green tea with strawberry?
