As fate would have it, it’s comedian Steve Harvey whose relationship advice has propelled him into the spotlight, making him the unofficial go-to guy in the media on all matters concerning black love and not Ohio R&B singer Lyfe Jennings. Why might you ask is this a shock, relevant, or specifically one that deserves mention?
Well, for the past 10 years, Jennings has been espousing the same tired memes through his music as those that have become popular in the columns, television appearances, and every other forum provided to Mr. Harvey. These messages include, but aren’t limited to: the overwhelming majority of men are dogs, so women don’t sell yourself short - just work on yourself; men are simple creatures, talk to them as such (whatever that means); if women don’t lower their standards, they’ll be single for the rest of their lives. Ya know, they same ole same ole.
Simply put, Lyfe was Steve Harvey: Relationship Expert & Love Guru before Steve. And yet, no book deal or Hollywood production deals for Lyfe. Le sigh (insert sarcasm).
