The Beijing Games have come and gone so we'll have to wait until 2012 to see Michael Phelps and the like do their thing, but Style.com is determined to keep the competitive juices flowing until then. Following up the first athletic race between model and pro athlete comes the coup between IMG's Caroline Winberg and Pro BMX rider "Superfly" John Skvarla. Obviously, you know wins this bicycle race. But if you're in need of good laugh this morning, you can't leave without watching this video.

Valentino Not a Victim of Madoff

Yesterday, it was widely reported on the internet that Valentino and business partner Giancarlo Giammetti were victims of the Bernard Madoff scandal.

Apparently though, that's not true.

Vogue UK continues, "following a report in Tuesday's Evening Standard that the designer had invested with the disgraced financier (who is facing jail over the $50 billion fraud), a representative for the label has confirmed to WWD that neither Valentino nor his longtime business partner Giancarlo Giammetti has any links to Madoff whatsoever."

So yes, the now retired designer is still living in the lap of luxury.

Not every actress/singer/whatever goes to Fashion Week just to "take in" all of the shows.

Much like the models, they're scheming for contracts with the various labels which normally pay much more for non-model types.

Case in point: Beijing Olympic gold medalist, Nastia Liukin. The all-star gymnast has snagged the spring Max Azira ad campaign. How? Lubov Azria creative director of Max Azria says: “The spring collection was inspired by movement and modern dance so she was perfect. It was meant to be, and the magic just sort of happened.”

A Series of Unfortunate Fashion Events

All courtesy of WWD

1. New York Look, the biannual spin-off from New York magazine dedicated to covering show seasons in New York, Paris and Milan. There definitely won’t be a spring issue this year — and a fall one is questionable.

2. Husband and wife design team Swaim and Christina Hutson revealed the closing of Obedient Sons LLC on Wednesday due to problems with their majority investor, said to be Green Day bassist Mike Dirn.

3. William Rast, the brand backed by Justin Timberlake, will make its Bryant Park debut next month when it holds its spring show at the tents during New York Fashion Week.

The last item really isn't bad because Mr. JT, in fact, makes really good denim products. But the thought of a label like William Rast outlasting Obedient Sons is sad. RIP.

Stephen Sprouse: The Book

Tonight, Marc Jacobs will host a bash in New York to formally unveil the latest Stephen Sprouse-Louis Vuitton collection, which hits stores the following day. Convently, the event coincides with the Stephen Sprouse exhibit Rock on Mars, which will be shown at Deitch Projects from January 8-February 28, 2009.

FWD reports, "For this initiative, Louis Vuitton has partnered with the non-profit organization Free Arts NYC." Cool.

The fete should be fabulous, no? Unfortunately, neither I and to that extent probably you as well, will be there to take in all of the Louis Vuitton pieces covered with Sprouse signature writing, which means we could do one of two things:

1. Foolishly, check out the full line of Louis Vuitton x Stephen Sprouse merchandise on welovesprouse.com. However, torture in all forms is bad. And boo, you can't afford that ish. At all.

2. Get in line to purchase The Stephen Sprouse Book, which will be available with four different jackets, each featuring a different Day-Glo color, an homage to Sprouse’s iconic album cover for Debbie Harry’s Rockbird, on Janury 13th.

Pre-order your copy at Barnes & Noble. The end.
