After skipping Fashion Week last season and side-stepping any and all major fashion magazines, Dallas-born Ali Michael appears to have adjusted nicely to her new role as Coach spokesperson. Not only has she been plastered on the front of the company's mailers, but the accessories manufacturer has created a new line of handbags named after the model.
The "Ali" comes in the form of either a slouchy hobo or a flap handbag. Both adorable and affordable (the pieces start at $298), the handbags are of the high school friendly variety. So, for those looking for a less trendy alternative to Alexander Wang's Coco duffel this fall may want to look elsewhere.
If you were like me and had your head buried in some over-priced textbook last week, you're probably new to this whole Tyra/Paulina Porizkova. Well, it's not much of an ordeal considering it just consists of Tyra firing Paulina because she was totz jealous and, well, Paulina going on national television and calling Tyra out for unprecedented amount of hating. Sounds good right? It is!
Last week on the Late Late Show, Paulina ripped Tyra a new one. "The reason I was told I was fired was because, it seemed that America's Next Top Model has gotten too fat and they needed to cut some fat and the fat was me. So I figured it was either that or my gigantic huge ego. Which I wasn't aware of until I was told by the producers that I have an ego problem," said the former ANTM judge. Not to be outdone or more importantly left looking bad, Tyra released the following statement yesterday:
"The current state of the economy has forced shows to make major budget cuts industry wide. America's Next Top Model is not immune to these financially challenging times. We've had to make significant cuts in every area of the production and, unfortunately, Paulina was a casualty of these cuts. Tyra, who pursued Paulina to join the show as a judge multiple times, was incredibly saddened by the decision the show was forced to make. We really enjoyed working with Paulina, and we wish her all the best in her future endeavors."
As far as whose telling the truth in this whole mess, I have no idea. Claims of Tyra being a diva and jealous of Paulina are just as credible as Paulina getting shwn the door solely because of budget cuts. One thing is for certain, though: Paulina, you will be missed. It was real while it lasted.
"American Apparel has agreed to pay Woody Allen $5 million to settle a lawsuit brought against the company by the filmmaker in 2007.
Allen had charged the L.A.-based retailer had used his image on two billboards in 2007 without his consent, thereby invading his privacy and damaging his reputation. He was seeking $10 million in damages in the case, which was being heard in U.S. district court in Manhattan.
In a statement, Dov Charney, founder and chief executive of American Apparel said, “Naturally there is some relief of not having to go through a trial but I also harbor a sense of remorse and sadness for not arguing an important issue regarding the First Amendment, particularly the ability of an individual or corporation to invoke the likeness of a public figure in a satiric and social statement.”
Charney added that the decision to settle the case came at the behest of American Apparel’s insurance carrier, which will pay the bulk of the $5 million settlement agreement."
Last night, Anna Wintour's interview with Morley Safer for 60 Minutes aired. In the thirteen minute discussion, the editor-in-chief comes across as a shrewd business women who is not a fan of "little houses" (read: fat people) and commands a lot of respect from her peers and remarkably thin editors who seem to be in a constant state of motion as they attempt to flee from their boss' scornful gaze. Still, the most revealing looks into Anna's real personality are left on the cutting room floor. Luckily though, CBS posted the outtakes from Anna's feature on the web this morning. My favorite would have to be her lament on why she loves fur and the aforementioned "little houses."
