Kira Plastinina: Shut Down by the Recession

This is really sad.

Even though we tend to have an aversion for any designer who bases their entire collection on the innocuous combination of bubblegum pink and glitter, it breaks our heart to hear this unfortunate economic downtown has forced teenage Russian mogul Kira Plastinina to close practically all of her boutiques in America by the end of this year.

On the matter, the 16-year-old designer told Bloomberg.com:

"The number of shoppers in the U.S. fell significantly. It became much harder to find money for investment because of the financial crisis. We had enormous plans: New York, then India and China in 2009."

It should be noted Kira only has twelve stores in the U.S., but when they cost her billionaire father 80 million dollars to construct, this still really sucks. If only because she actually designs her pieces, which if we're going to be honest, are fairly cute and celeb "designers," who without a doubt don't have much of any input in the final look of their lines, are here to stay indefinitely.

Sigh. Anyways, it still looks as if the Kira Plastinina US eCommerce will stay put. FYI: Everything is on sale right now. So if you have a little cousin who's in junior high or an aunt going through a mid-life crisis, the graphic hoodies and tees are a must.
